LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (January 13, 2016) — In a press conference this morning at the Ali Center, President and CEO Donald Lassere announced that beginning immediately, the Ali Center is committed to providing every Jefferson County family who is currently participating in Jefferson County’s Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program (KTAP) with a free annual family membership. With this membership, parents and children will have the opportunity to visit the Ali Center as many times as they would like, free of charge.
An estimated 3,000 Jefferson County families are currently participating in KTAP. These low-income families receiving financial assistance represent over 5,000 children.
All families who are participating in KTAP who are interested in receiving their free year-long membership to the Ali Center will need to bring proof of benefits to the Center during normal business hours and their membership will be processed promptly.
The membership offer was propelled by its Global Game Changer’s partnership which is presenting a unique opportunity to change students’ lives by addressing inequities caused, in part, by the 6,000-hour “enrichment gap” experience by lower income and minority families by the time they reach sixth grade.
The Muhammad Ali Center, a 501(c)3 corporation, was co-founded by Muhammad Ali and his wife Lonnie in their hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. The international cultural center promotes the six core principles of Muhammad Ali (Confidence, Conviction, Dedication, Giving, Respect, and Spirituality) in ways that inspire personal and global greatness and provides programming and events around the focus areas of education, gender equity, and global citizenship. Its newest initiative, Generation Ali, fosters a new generation of leaders to contribute positively to their communities and to change the world for the better. The Center’s headquarters also contains an award-winning museum experience. For more information, please visit www.alicenter.org
