Two New Exhibits Open Today at The Ali Center

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (January 14, 2015)...

The Ali Center will open two new temporary exhibits on January 14th! The first is an annual “Ali Tribute” exhibit, which features photos and art in various mediums about the man known as “The Greatest.” The second exhibit, called “Americans Who Tell the Truth” presents the narratives of citizens who courageously address issues of social, environmental, and economic fairness.

Artist Robert Shetterly’s beautifully crafted portraits highlight prominent civil rights activists, both past and present. By combining art and his passion for activism, this exhibit offers inspiration for a new generation to take action for the common good, for our communities, and for the Earth. Visitors will discover the words and likenesses of past activists such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Fannie Lou Hamer, and Senator Robert Kennedy, as well as contemporary individuals including Van Jones, Dave Zirin, and Alice Walker.

Our hope is that visitors—in particular students—will leave the exhibit appreciating that the fight for civil rights continues and that individual voices can make a difference. “Americans Who Tell the Truth” will run through May 31st. Both exhibits are included in the Ali Center general admission price.
