Once Upon a Holiday Exhibit at the Muhammad Ali Center This Winter
Exhibit open from November 24-January 6
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (November 15, 2012) … Once Upon a Holiday opens at the Muhammad Ali Center on November 24 and a visit to this exhibit is perfect for families looking for kid-friendly activities, hosts of out-out-of-town holiday guests, and post-holiday shopping. This exhibit, which runs through January 6th, 2013, will consist of giant storybook pages that transport visitors around the globe while they learn about winter celebrations from a multitude of cultures.
A special preview of the exhibit, “Feel Like a Kid Again at the Muhammad Ali Center,” will be held on Friday, November 23 from 4:00pm-8:00pm. This promotion allows for adults to be admitted to the Center for the child’s price of admission ($4), while children are admitted free of charge. “Feel Like a Kid Again” will be held on the same evening as Light Up Louisville. The Muhammad Ali Center is located just blocks from those festivities and features covered parking in the Muhammad Ali Center garage and quick access to Interstates 64 and 71 at the close of the events.
Educational activities that correspond with each holiday featured in Once Upon a Holiday will enable visitors to gain additional knowledge about Diwali, Kwanzaa, Chinese New Year, Eid ul-Fitr, Hanukkah, Yalda, Pancha Ganapati, St. Lucia Day, Christmas, and more. Visitors to the exhibit, which largely focuses on family and giving, can create crafts, write holiday letters welcoming newly arriving refugees in our city, read books on the featured holidays, and add a paper handprint that describes what family means to the them to a painted “tree” that will be included in the exhibit. In addition, each visitor will be able to take home a coloring book with images from the exhibit that will help them to share information about the holidays with loved ones.
The Muhammad Ali Center Store has stocked its shelves with merchandise geared toward, and priced for, children shoppers. Parents and guardians are encouraged to visit the store, located in the main lobby of the Muhammad Ali Center, with their children for a one-stop shop for holiday gifts, crafts, and games. In addition to the children’s selection and normally stocked items, the Ali Center Store will have fair-trade products, accessories and apparel for men and women, along with a grand selection of prints and posters available for purchase.
