Throughout the year, the Daughters of Greatness breakfast series invites prominent women engaged in social philanthropy, activism, and pursuits of justice to share their stories with the Louisville community. The Daughters of Greatness series provides a place for dialogue and discussion on current issues of justice, community engagement, and social movements within the Louisville area and beyond.
Join the Ali Center in welcoming this month’s Daughter of Greatness, Dr. Olenda Johnson.
Dr. Olenda E. Johnson is Professor of Strategic Leadership and Leader Development at the U. S. Naval War College – a graduate-level institution for highly select military officers and civilians. As a lead contributor in the College’s Leadership & Ethics (L&E) directorate, Olenda advises Navy senior leaders, develops strategy, and facilitates team efforts. Most recently, she led the L&E team in developing and teaching a leadership course for 2-Star admirals and senior government executives. Olenda also works with other military units (e.g., U.S. Army Special Forces Command) to support their leader development.
A passionate teacher and educator, Olenda thrives on helping others learn and grow – whether an undergraduate student, a nursing professional, a Bible study participant, or a senior military leader. As an invited speaker and facilitator, she shares her experiences and knowledge with people in other organizations to instill in them the courage and confidence to lead in their unique circumstance. Olenda is driven to help others value themselves, their talents, and the impact they can have on their families, their work, and their communities.
Olenda earned her Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from the University of Pittsburgh, and both a B. S. and MBA from Florida A&M University. Prior to joining the War College, she was a tenured professor at North Carolina A&T State University. She also held previous visiting faculty appointments at the U.S. Army War College and the U.S. Air Force Academy. Mostly, Olenda finds the greatest joy in serving others – whether professionally, within her faith community, or among family and friends.
A hot breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m and the program will start at 9:00 a.m.
