Parklands Explorer: Beginner Yoga, Forest Succession & Spirituality
Join us at The Parklands for a beginner-friendly yoga class at 9 AM on Saturday, June 9 at Brown-Forman Silo Center in Turkey Run Park led by instructors from the YMCA at Norton Commons. The class is 45 minutes in length and focuses on building strength, flexibility, and concentration. Incorporated in the class will be flowing moves matched with breathing to allow the body to relax and enjoy its full potential. Please bring a water bottle and your own yoga mat. A limited number of mats will be available courtesy of the YMCA at Norton Commons for those who do not have their own. This activity is best suited for participants ages 12 and up. In the event of rain, this event will be held under the shelter of the Pignic Barn.
After yoga, stick around to stretch your mental muscles as we explore Forest Succession and Spirituality for an extra special hike celebrating the “I Am Ali” Festival. As one of Muhammad Ali’s Six Core Principles, Spirituality means having a sense of awe, reverence, and inner peace inspired by a connection to all of creation and/or that which is greater than oneself. What better place to explore this value than in the midst of Turkey Run Forest.
The Parklands forests provide excellent wildlife habitat as well as a sense of peace for us humans. Join interpretive rangers as we discuss the dynamic nature of forests while hiking through the largest forested section of The Parklands. The hike will begin at 10 AM from the Brown-Forman Silo Center. All ages and experience levels are welcome for this 4.6-mile roundtrip walk on the Paw Paw Trail. Remember to dress for the weather, wear a good pair of walking shoes and bring a water bottle.
Explorers may choose to join us for yoga and the interpretive walk or just one of these activities. We hope you will join us on this pathway to wellness as we improve mind, body, and spirit. Participation is FREE, we just ask that you bring a healthy sense of exploration and a sturdy pair of boots!
