Gabriel “Gabe the Cake Man” and Olivia Feinn Receive Final Contribution at 2014 Humanitarian Awards

Gabriel and Olivia Feinn set out with a goal of raising $35,000 to build a hospital in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and achieved that goal—in just under a year—at the Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards last month. An anonymous donor contributed the final funds needed for the hospital’s construction. This is a positive news story that brings together many aspects of the compassionate Louisville community which has supported 14-year old Gabe and 10-year old Livvy Feinn on their mission. It also comes on the eve of the 40^th anniversary of the famous Rumble in the Jungle, where Muhammad Ali knocked out George Foreman for the heavyweight championship; the fight took place in Kinshasa, Zaire—now part of the DRC.

Gabe and Livvy have been making cakes for people who donate to their cause, along with making YouTube videos to explain the project and their vision for it. In addition, they have been speaking to children and teens to try to inspire them to step out and do something “big” with their own talents. Gabe and Livvy reached their goal at the 2014 Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards where an anonymous donor generously contributed the final funds needed to build the hospital.

One of the Center’s programmatic areas is Global Citizenship. The Ali Center invited Gabe and Livvy to the Humanitarian Awards and the CONGO14 Bruno Mars concert to help the children raise awareness of their project in the community and to showcase how individual efforts can have positive humanitarian effects around the globe.

Countless individuals and organizations from the community helped the Feinns reach their goal, including:  Norton Healthcare Marketing and Communications Team, Kosair Children’s Medical Center-Brownsboro, The Bakery at Sullivan University, Big Idea Media Group, Southeast Christian Church, local school children, local media, and countless others.
