LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (June 5, 2016) — The Muhammad Ali Center wishes to express its deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Lonnie and the Muhammad Ali family and friends. In order to reinforce the Ali Center’s role in the community as a “gathering place,” the Ali Center is proud to announce that Teddy Abrams, conductor of the Louisville Orchestra, will be performing a live music tribute to Muhammad Ali at 2:30 p.m. today on the Muhammad Ali Plaza.
Mourners will be able to pay their respects at the Ali Center until 5pm today. The Center will also be open throughout the week, including Monday, to allow the public to celebrate the life and legacy of its co-founder, Muhammad Ali. A $5 donation is recommended, but not necessary, for admittance into the Center’s 2-1/2 levels of award-winning exhibits. Visitors are also welcome to share their condolences online through the Ali Center’s web site, www.alicenter.org or in-person inside the Main Lobby.
The Ali’s have requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Muhammad Ali Center through the website, in order continue to preserve and share the legacy of Muhammad Ali.
Donald Lassere, President and CEO for the Ali Center, said, “Muhammad’s circle of life began in his hometown of Louisville, Ky, and continues at the Ali Center just a few blocks from where he grew up.” We are proud—as the stewards of The Champ’s unbelievable place in history—to move our mission forward with respect and honor.”
