Community yoga event to take place on January 2, 2016

Cellist, Activist, Kentucky Native Ben Sollee to Provide Musical Accompaniment

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (December 15, 2015) — The Muhammad Ali Center is starting the new year by partnering with 502 Power Yoga for the second annual Yoga Mala for Africa on Saturday, January 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Ali Center. Fundraising proceeds from the community-wide event will benefit the Ali Center and the African Yoga Project—a program that empowers the diverse tribes and communities in Africa and creates opportunities for them to “step into their own greatness.”

This year’s Yoga Mala consists of 108 sun salutations led by 12 local yoga instructors who practice various yoga disciplines and styles. The event unites yoga and community and highlights diversity and collaboration. People from across the community are encouraged to attend.

New this year, will be the musical accompaniment by cellist, activist, and Kentucky native Ben Sollee, who will be performing as participants move through their sun salutations.

“We can’t think of a better way to begin the New Year,” said Jamie Calzi, 502 Power Yoga’s Community Relations Director. “Not only will participants have the chance to challenge themselves both physically and mentally, but the money raised from the event will benefit two very powerful organizations.”
