Muhammad Ali Center Partners with KET and the Asia Institute Crane House for Free Film Screening

Discussion with the Asia Institute Crane House to follow

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (January 19, 2016) — In partnership with KET and the Asia Institute Crane House, the Muhammad Ali Center is showing a free screening of In Football We Trust on January 25 at 6:00 p.m. in the Center’s auditorium. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. While admission is free, reservations are required and can be confirmed here.

In Football We Trust is an insightful and moving documentary feature film exploring in rich detail the remarkable story behind the Polynesian Pipeline to the NFL. A contemporary American story, the film transports viewers deep inside the tightly-knit and complex Polynesian community in Salt Lake City, Utah, one of the chief sources for the modern influx of Pacific Islanders NFLers. With unprecedented access and shot over a four-year time period, the film intimately portrays four young Polynesian men striving to overcome gang violence and near poverty through the promise of American football. Movie trailer can be viewed here.

After the film we will have a short discussion and presentation with Martin Rollins from the Asia Institute Crane House and Charles Gwinn from the Ali Center on the context of the film and the relationship the United States has with Polynesian countries, focusing on social justice issues.
