The Muhammad Ali Center joins with all others who are sending out heartfelt empathy to the family of Breonna Taylor.
In the Ali Center’s new Truth Be Told Exhibit, we reveal some of the draconian local, state and national policies that have allowed systemic racism to exist in this country since its inception. One such policy reveals how Black Americans are frequently treated unfairly in the criminal justice system. It is this and other policies that foster systemic racism in this country that we must challenge and defeat. For too long systemic racism has deprived Black Americans of equal access to employment, housing, education, healthcare, wealth and voting rights.
What should we do to fight against systemic racism and for true justice? Peaceful protests, yes! But, we must seek to elect individuals who will change racist policies and vote out those who foster and support these policies. Now is the time to act. We must have the courage to act now for Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Daniel Prude, and hundreds more. This is the only way we can begin the healing process. Otherwise the open sore of systemic racism will continue to fester until more “tragedies” occur.
