Offerings Provide Enjoyment for Entire Family
As the year comes to a close, the Ali Center is gearing up for several events that are open to the public and that provide enjoyment for the entire family.
First, on Friday, December 19th at 6:00 p.m., the Muhammad Ali Center will show Evolution of a Criminal by Darius Clark Monroe as part of its ongoing educational film series. The movie explores the financial straits that led Monroe to a desperate act as teenager in Texas, and returns to the scene of the crime to interview family members, close friends, and mentors to reflect on the aftermath. The Ali Center wants to remind guests that the Once Upon a Holiday exhibit remains open through January 4th. This festive exhibit showcases holidays around the world through life-size storybook pages and teaches visitors about how various cultures celebrate the season.
Also still available for purchase are general admission tickets to the world premiere of “And In This Corner…Cassius Clay,” a play by Idris Goodwin that tells the story of young Ali, his rise to the Olympics, and his decision to use his growing reputation to affect change as a fighter for civil rights as well. In partnership with StageOne Family Theatre, the performance will take place in the Kentucky Center’s Bomhard Theatre on January 17th, followed by a post-play reception. This event is being held on Muhammad Ali’s 73rd birthday as part of a gala celebration and fundraiser that will help to send 25,000 area students on a dual field trip where they will see the play and tour the Ali Center. A limited number of $50 tickets remain which entitle guests to see the play and attend the post-show champagne and cake reception.
