Yvette L. Gentry has been serving as the Director of Resident and Community Safety for LDG Development since July 2022. LDG is a leading developer who builds quality affordable housing across the country. This role has given her the opportunity to use her skills, experience, and education to work on a mission that is close to her heart.
She spent the previous four years working in the non- profit space as Executive Director of the Rajon Rondo Foundation and Director of Justice and Opportunity for Metro United Way Louisville.
Yvette made history in 2020 as the first Woman to lead the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD)when she took on role as “interim” Police Chief. She returned to the high-stress law-enforcement field in large part to, “help led a call to action for those willing to do the work it takes to heal our city – and provide truth so we can have reconciliation and create a system of justice rooted in equity.”
Yvette previously retired from LMPD as a deputy chief in 2014, where she served for two decades in investigations, strategic planning, budgeting, and patrol. She then served as Chief of Community Building until 2017. She is a Louisville native and graduate of Central High School and University of Louisville where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. She is also a graduate of Senior Management Institute for Police (PERF) at Boston University and Veteran of the United States Army National Guard.
Over the course of her career, she has earned numerous awards for her leadership and dedication to community including the 2022 Alpha Kappa Alpha Lifetime Achievement Award, the 2022 Woman of Distinction honor from the Center for Women and Families, the Campaign for Black Male Achievement 2019 Giving Award, induction into Central High School Distinguished Hall of Fame in 2016, International Ministerial Coalition Leadership Award in 2016, the LMPD Distinguished Community Service Award in 2013, and the 1999 Officer of the Year Award from Bluecoats.
Yvette has a strong faith in God and is a grateful that he has allowed her to become a six-year survivor of breast cancer.
Yvette is married to Donald Gentry and is the proud mother of four sons: Adonis, Devin, Myles, and Quentin.
