Reimagining Community Care

Black Wellness Matters is a project created by community members realizing the need for more accessible and practical mental and behavioral health support for our Black population. Through co-creation, we are building community safety and alternatives to police intervention when a mental health crisis is a concern.

Programs offered by Black Wellness Matters include:

Helpers’ Helpers – A program for black mental health practitioners to share their needs and desires when providing lucrative and expansive patient services. Data from this program will help Black Wellness Matters bridge gaps to support our service providers. Community Care is a program created to engage and educate our community members on the importance of mental health support systems. We aim to survey neighborhoods to learn their cultural needs, share resources, create empowering educational events with city officials, and train family members and neighborhood leaders to de-escalate, support, and call the proper channels for a mental health crisis..
