Meet Ali

The Ali Center highlights Muhammad Ali as a symbol of courage, portraying him as a powerful and compassionate figure in both boxing and social justice.

Born Cassius Clay Jr. in 1942, Ali gained fame for prevailing athletically, winning a gold medal and becoming the heavyweight champion while also advocating for civil rights and his conversion to Islam. Ali faced significant challenges, including a three-year ban from boxing for his conscientious objection to the Vietnam War, but he reclaimed his title multiple times.

In 2005, he and his wife, Lonnie Ali, founded the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville to inspire and promote social justice. Even after his passing on June 3, 2016, Ali’s legacy continues through his center and the ongoing fight for justice.
